Let’s Talk About Andrew Martin
Our signature Andrew Martin horse cushion displayed here is one of our favourites
Our collection at Beverley Sandoy is inspired by some great designers. Today, we’re talking about Andrew Martin, the British interior design business. It’s well known in our family that Beverley keeps a collection of Andrew Martin’s annual Interior Design Review books, and they’re stacked up on our shelves. What we love about Andrew Martin is its emphasis on global cultural fusion. Since 1978, Andrew Martin has used the medium of interior design to shine a light on hidden cultures around the world. This world-renowned interior design company is proud that it doesn’t stick to a certain style, and is instead free to try new ideas, schemes, and influences from around the world. Its founder, Martin Waller, has made no secret of his love of travel. He knows that globalisation and the increasing accessibility of travel are working to bring cultures together, but also blurring the lines between them with the result that some cultures are disappearing. He knows that this ‘will make the world far less interesting’. He also believes that design is about ‘describing a love of various places or peoples’. One Andrew Martin cushion, for example, displays silhouettes of giraffes, elephants, hippos and rhinos in the African savannah. Beverley always says she could go back to Africa one hundred times and never get sick of it. She’s in her happy place when she’s on safaris in Africa’s backyard enjoying the wildlife that can be found there.
We also love how Andrew Martin knows how to have fun. They have designs featuring the icons of the 1950s, retro colours of the 1980s, and prints of British legends The Beatles. This is exactly what Beverley Sandoy is about. You’ll find our range of interior cushions, furs and throws can match up with each other nicely. This is to ensure that you at home can have fun mixing and matching our schemes and seeing what suits you. We want to make sure we have a select few designer cushions, such as the one above, always available to you, to make your room feel a million dollars.
Andrew Martin’s love of travel and having fun with design is why it is this week’s Beverley Sandoy design inspiration.
